Randleman, N.C-August 3, 2009- You never know who will stop by Victory Junction and on a sunny Monday morning, country music sensation, Darius Rucker, came by to visit with campers during spina bifida week!

Rucker’s day started with a round of miniature golf on Victory Junction’s nine hole course. Then he was off to the Bass Master’s Catch, Kiss and Release Marina to practice his fishing skills. Rucker joked that although he didn’t catch a single fish himself, he did get to watch a young camper who was “a regular Bill Dance” stand right beside him and catch fish after fish!

Later, a different group of Victory Junction campers experienced the most exciting one-on-one time with Rucker when he joined them for a jam session in the Silver Theater. Campers and their counselors were invited to become members of the band and had the thrill of jamming along with Rucker to “Hold My Hand.”

Next on the docket for the day was a trip to the Kurt Busch Super Dome where a game of beach ball golf was underway! Rucker served as umpire while Kyle Petty filled in as pitcher. After working up a sweat in the Super Dome it was off to lunch in the Hendrick Fuel Stop. Rucker ate lunch with the campers, signed autographs and joined in on the after lunch dance party.

After spending a day with the campers, Rucker opened up about his trip, “You can’t help but feel they’re doing great stuff here. You come here and your heart just opens up. I’ll be back; this is a really cool place.” Rucker has already set a date for his next visit, which will be in November, when he’ll be performing a private concert at Kyle and Pattie’s home to benefit Victory Junction.
