Victory Junction teamed up with STP to bring NASCAR it’s very first Victory Junction camper reporter, Gavin, a 13-year old from Arkansas who is battling muscular dystrophy. An avid NASCAR fan and enthusiast, we knew that Gavin would be perfect for the job of representing Victory Junction as STP Ambassador and “special correspondent” all weekend long.

“My main responsibility is to represent disabled people, disabled kids and Victory Junction,” Gavin said. “I’m honored to do this. Everybody, whether they’re disabled or not, should have opportunities like this – to meet all these great people in this sport.”

Gavin quickly made his presence known as he interviewed all of the sport’s big names, from NASCAR legend Richard Petty to NASCAR President Mike Helton and many drivers. Through social media, the world was able to follow Gavin as he led interviews and press conferences, offered the opening prayer for chapel, helped present Sprint Cup drivers during driver introductions on race day and even celebrated in Victory Lane. His extensive knowledge of the sport was evident with every question he asked, so sports reporters and writers beware!

His candid interviews and photos brought many laughs to the NASCAR and Victory Junction communities and reminded everyone of the importance of a good laugh, creating lasting friendships and providing the opportunity for children to reach past their medical conditions and enjoy life-changing experiences.

And according to Gavin, especially experiences that involve good hot dogs. “Martinsville Speedway is an 8.5 out of 10! The best hot dog on the food scale is a 5, so (8.5 is an) amazing hot dog.”

The Victory Junction family could not be more proud of our very own camper reporter, Gavin Grubbs.
